The Gallery
at Carillon in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Babette Herschberger
and Mary Lou Sussman
The Gallery at Carillon
in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the exhibits, Babette Herschberger:
Paintings and Mary Lou Sussman: Monoprints, on view
through Jan. 29, 2010. The exhibit is organized by Hodges Taylor
Gallery in Charlotte.
Babette Herschberger
A native of Indiana, Babette Herschberger graduated from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale with honors in 1984. Her paintings have been represented at Art Basel, Miami Beach, AAF Contemporary Art Fair, New York, ArtExpo Atlanta and Art Expo New York. She maintains a studio in Miami, Florida.
Regarding the work,
Herschberger's approach is very intuitive. There are no sketches
to work from with little predetermined choice of color. A deliberate
sense of order and pace is achieved through color interaction,
repetitive elements, hand-drawn grid lines, and loose geometric
shapes.
Mary Lou
Sussman
Mary Lou Sussman studied printmaking under artist Frank Cassara at the University of Michigan. She now maintains her studio at Blue Pony Studio and Press in Charlotte, NC, where she teaching printmaking.
Sussman has had a lifelong interest in nature both in preservation and in observing nature's cycles of life and death. Using sources such as photos, books, magazines, newspapers, covers of catalogues and such, she layers images of nature onto the surface of the work. This adds a graphic element to the piece, which produces a pleasing contrast to the more organic shapes.
The exhibition is sponsored by Hines Charlotte Carillon LP.
