Carolina Gallery in Spartanburg, SC,
Features Works by Linda Hyatt Cancel
This holiday season Linda Hyatt Cancel is breaking her own tradition of releasing a new Santa print biennially. Beginning in 1999, Cancel teamed up with real life Santa, "Cliff Kringle" Snider, to paint his portrait in settings with a spiritual significance, releasing one new Santa print every two years. Following the release of The Message in 2009, Cancel felt it was important not to wait two years before bringing out her next print. The new print, offered for the first time at Dickens of a Christmas on Nov. 30, can be purchased through Dec. 31, 2010, at Carolina Gallery.
Each year, Cancel hears touching stories from people who appreciate the spiritual aspect that her prints represent and this year's Santa, The Hour has inspired chills in a lot of people. For this portrayal, Cliff Snider posed in a Bishop's chair in the Church of the Epiphany in Laurens, SC, wearing a warm cloak custom made from his grandmother's quilt. The light streaming through the window illuminates a pensive Santa, reflecting on the watch he holds in his hand. A carving of the Last Supper, with Christ centered right above him, is seen behind Santa.
Limited numbers of the lithograph on paper or giclee on canvas in two different sizes are available.
