Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, SC, Offers Holiday Exhibits
Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, SC, is offering two indoor exhibits for the holiday season, on view through Jan. 2, 2012.
Created by our horticulture staff, Signs of the Season in Flora and Fauna provides inspiration for decorating your own home with poinsettia and bromeliad trees, wreaths, and assorted natural materials. The display of vintage carousel animals enhances the beauty of this exhibit.
Signs of the Season in Art and History displays, beautiful artwork including sculpture and paintings. Themed Christmas trees will depict holiday ornamentation from the late-19th century to the mid-20th century, including extensive collections of Victorian and pre-World War II-era ornaments. Accompanying the trees are authentic period costumes made by fabric sculptor Mary Roehr of Fort Mill, SC. Holiday gingerbread houses created by Holly Huntey, a talented area pastry chef, will be on view. A special treat for young and old alike will be the display of vintage trains on loan from local collectors. Both exhibits are open daily and are free with garden admission.
Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark, offers one of the largest collections of outdoor sculpture in America. This preeminent collection of American representational sculpture includes - 560 works by 240 artists - representing such well-known artists as Charles Parks, Daniel Chester French, Carl Milles, August Saint-Gaudens and Anna Hyatt Huntington.
