Fountainside
Gallery in Wilmington, NC, Features Works by Sandy Nelson
Fountainside Gallery in Wilmington, NC, will present the exhibit, Crossroads, featuring an exhibit of new paintings by Sandy Nelson, a native of Kentucky now living in Wilmington. The exhibition opens on Feb. 7 and continues through Mar. 1, 2009.
The works in oil center mainly on the landscape, both rural and coastal with sweeping marshes and backlit clouds juxtaposing hay bales and shrimp boats. Equally adept at rendering hills and coastlines, Nelson reflects both her rural childhood and life on the coast of North Carolina, her home for the last ten years. Nelson studied fine art at the University of Kentucky and later with several nationally known artists across the country.
Now, with works in over 60 corporate collections, including those of Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart, and George Steinbrenner, owner of the NY Yankees, and Rotary International, Nelson is exhibiting in galleries where collectors are recognizing her work. As an artist working in the commercial sector for several years, she did assignments for the Bloodhorse Magazine, GTE Yellowpages and other publications. The requirements of commercial art taught the artist discipline and interpretation. Since then, Nelson has been profiled in "M" Magazine, Northlight Magazine, Rotary International and other publications; recently one of her portraits was featured on the cover of Bench & Bar Magazine.
Nelson was a finalist in The Artists Magazine's top 200, had work published on the cover of books such as the Beach Book and was featured in Southwest Art magazine's "Start your Collection" section. She excels in landscape and figurative work, capturing the essence of the subject.
