Greenlife Grocery
in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Derfla
Boone, NC, artist, Derfla, currently has an exhibit of fifteen
paintings on view in the café at Greenlife Grocery through
Feb. 27, 2009. This is the first exhibit in Asheville for
Kent Paulette, a 27-year-old self-taught artist painting under
the name Derfla.
From his studio overlooking the mountains, Derfla uses a palette
knife to create oil paintings with vibrant colors and thick textures.
The artist states, "From the start of this journey I've opted
out of symbolism, instead searching for a more direct way to express
one core idea. This has led me to give control over to a
process that allows the painting to come to life organically. The
painting is able to occur as an uninterrupted event subject to
the whims of chance."
