Hawthorne Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Garrett Speirs and Carlos Gustavo

Hawthorne Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, is presenting the exhibit, New Works - Gallery Artists, featuring works by new gallery artists, Garrett Speirs and Carlos Gustavo, on view through Mar. 14, 2009.

Garrett Speirs was the graphics coordinator at the Sawtooth Center for Visual Art in the mid-1990's. He moved to Santa Barbara, CA, where he now resides and paints. A student of Cranbrook Academy of Art, Speirs has taught for University of Georgia visiting Professor program in Cortona Italy, the focus of many of his landscape paintings.

Carlos Gustavo began his career in photography as a corporal in the Marine Corps when he befriended a military photographer and took his first photograph. His current projects explore subjects in the rural areas of the North Carolina Piedmont. Gustavo's recent work documents the community of Blanche, focusing on individuals and their relationship with the landscape. He resides in Winston-Salem, NC.

Hawthorne Gallery and Idlewild House share 7000 square feet of space at the historic property, formerly the Dorminy Dance Studio, on Fourth Street in the West End of Winston-Salem, NC. The building was originally designed by Pennsylvania architect Charles Barton Keene of Reynolda House fame. The two businesses have created a destination for art and design. Interior vignettes accent the gallery spaces featuring original artwork.
