in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by 3 Women Artists
Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, 5th Annual, Three-Woman Exhibition, displaying new works by Laurie Richardson, Sheryl Stalnaker, and Dru Warmath, on view from Feb. 6 - 28, 2009.
Laurie Richardson graduated from the University of Georgia with a BFA in Graphic Design. Her career has included work as an art director, a free-lance designer, and teacher. Now a full-time painter, Richardson uses pastels and oils to express her favorite elements of art - color and composition. Richardson explains, "Color can express so many different moods; and an unusual composition allows one to see the ordinary in an extraordinary way. The ability to express a certain feeling without words is one of my greatest joys as an artist."
In her oil paintings, Sheryl Stalnaker explores a wide range of subject matter including landscape, architecture, and still life. She prefers painting with a palette knife, using this tool to achieve a rich, vibrant, textural quality in her works. Stalnaker paints en plein air and in studio, in order to engage all of her senses in the creation of her art. A graduate of the University of Washington, her award- winning paintings have been featured in prominent juried shows including: the Telfair Museum of Art Fair in Savannah, GA, and the Piccolo Spoleto Exhibitions in Charleston, SC.
Dru Warmath received her education at the University of South Carolina. She has garnered acclaim for her paintings of the female figure. In these intensely personal works, painted in oil and watermedia, she seeks to reveal her search for a mood or deeper emotion and to establish a shared moment between the observer and the artist. Warmath's primary focus is the creation of vibrant rhythms based on color relationships, evident throughout her carefully executed compositions. Having worked as a professional artist for the past sixteen years, she now shares her knowledge by teaching. She has taught classes at the Mint Museum of Art and Queens University and offers private instruction at her studio in Charlotte. Honored as a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, her work is featured in numerous private and corporate collections.
