RedSky Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Jan Kransberger and Martha Sharp

RedSky Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, People and Places, featuring new works by Jan Kransberger and Martha Sharp, on view from Feb. 13 through Mar. 12, 2009.

Jan Kransberger

Through her glass figures, artist Jan Kransberger tells the stories of the human experience while painter Martha Sharp shares the story of her travels through Italy through her depictions of people and landscapes. These two artists give voices to the people and places they have encountered on their journeys.

After many years as a graphic artist, Kransberger moved to Asheville, NC, where she was reintroduced to a love of metal work which began while she was pursuing her art degree at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. When Kransberger discovered a "Glass and Metal Collaboration" workshop at the Penland School of Craft she was immediately intrigued and has been working with kiln cast glass and metal together ever since.

Kransberger uses "the vernacular of the human form" to explore the power of subtlety in her work. She has become a master at crafting a specific mood or expression by paring down certain forms and exaggerating another isolated object. The object's isolation and exaggeration gives it a strength which speaks boldly. Of her work, Krasberger says the themes and techniques she uses "can represent any current fascination, obsession, or concern where the glass merely becomes a vocabulary to express something which often times is difficult to articulate."

Martha Sharp

After a 20 plus years career in the computer industry, Martha Sharp took a painting class at the Gibbes Museum Studio in Charleston, SC. That was the spark that started her painting career. Painting was "love at first sight" and quickly became her life. Taking workshops with numerous national artists, as well as a wealth of museum and private study, has been her art education.

Over the years, Sharp's painting style has become uniquely her own with her rich color and broad brushstrokes. She is drawn to figurative scenes which reveal something of the intimacy of human experience. Her newest work reflects her travels abroad, capturing landscapes, street scenes and quite corner cafés.

RedSky Gallery features original works on paper and canvas, sculpture, ceramic, glass, studio furniture, art-to-wear, jewelry, and more. Over 500 regional and national artists are represented.
