Guild in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Steve Jacobs
The
Charleston Artist Guild in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit,
Formal and Fantasy, featuring works by Steve Jacobs, in
the Guild Gallery from Feb. 5 - 28, 2010.
Jacobs' show combines his passions for painting in a very controlled or formal style of Charleston's architecture alongside a more whimsical, experimental free flowing fantasy style of painting.
Jacobs was born in Landstuhl, Germany where his Father served in the US Armed Forces. After his Father retired, the family moved to Charleston and thus was born his fascination with the city's history and architectural beauty. He graduated from Moultrie High School where he received instruction from Virginia Fouche Bolton, and began expressing his passion for Charleston through his artwork.
Jacobs continued his education at Georgia Southern University, earning a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. After graduation he began his career as a professional pianist, but continued to hone his artistic skills developed under Virginia Fouche Bolton by studying at the Atlanta College of Art, and Spruill Academy in Atlanta, GA.
Jacobs' greatest joy has been showcasing the beauty of the City of Charleston through watercolor, oil, acrylic paintings and pencil drawings. His work can be seen in the following galleries and shops in Charleston: Courtyard Art Gallery, Charleston Artist Guild Gallery, Avondale Wine and Cheese, Historic Charleston Foundation Shop, and the Gibbes Art Museum Shop.
