Frame of Mind
in Columbia, SC, Features Works by W. Heyward Sims
Frame of Mind in Columbia, SC, will present the exhibit, Cagematch: Clarity vs. Chaos, featuring works by W. Heyward Sims from Feb. 4 - 27, 2010.
The exhibit features works that detail one young man's quintessential mental quest to discover purpose, direction, and meaning in a complicated modern world plagued by confusion and misinformation.
This is Sims's third public art exhibition, but his involvement in the arts has been lifelong. After years of art classes in grade school culminating in the addition of one of his 12th grade pieces to Dreher High School's permanent art collection, he went on to major in Art at the University of South Carolina and graduated with a BFA in Art Studio in 2005. Upon graduation, Sims interned with Mad Monkey and then subsequently worked for Marketing Performance Group. After a year with that company, he acquired employment at The Columbia Museum of Art; however shortly thereafter, Cyberwoven drafted him to work under their name in late September of 2007.
Since May of 2009, Sims has been doing freelance commercial design to earn money while concurrently working on his art and two musical projects. The disenchantment arising from his personal experiences in the commercial design industry is the focus of some of the pieces; however, other works delve into scathing social and political commentary completely unrelated to his involvement in commercial design.
