Coker College in Hartsville, SC, Offers Works by Laura Carpenter Truitt
Coker College in Hartsville, SC, will present Thresholds, featuring works by Fort Collins, CO, painter and draftsman, Laura Carpenter Truitt, on view in the Cecelia Coker Bell Gallery, in the Gladys C. Fort Art Building, from Feb. 3 - 28, 2014. A reception will be held on Feb. 3, from 7-8pm.
Truitt describes the point of view in her paintings and drawings as “a threshold of sorts:” one where she imagines “looking out and looking in at the same time.” The resulting compositions can be viewed as landscapes seen through transparent architecture or a hybrid where structure and nature compete for the same space. As a group, the resulting images capture an energetic visual conflict between the geometry of architecture and the organic forms of nature.
Truitt is originally from Yellow Springs, OH, and was awarded her BA in painting from Goucher College in Baltimore. She received her MFA from Colorado State University, Fort Collins in 2012. She has also studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow, Scotland, and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT. She currently lives and works in Fort Collins.
