Council in Concord, NC, Offers Architecturally Inspired Exhibit
The Cabarrus Arts Council in Concord, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Structurally Sound: Foundations in Architecture, featuring works by ten artists, which explores architecture from a variety of angles and in diverse media. The exhibit is on view in the Arts Council Galleries, located in Cabarrus County's historic courthouse, through Mar. 26, 2009.
Lin Barnhardt handbuilds clay reconstructions of architectural landmarks as seen from a bird's eye view, while Robert Brown applies plein air landscape methods to architectural exteriors and interiors. Alex Clark paints in the narrative style of the early Renaissance painters.
Richard Fennell
Sharon Dowell paints colorful cityscapes that show urban scenes from a worm's eye view. Richard Fennell is known for the vibrant colors and light in his countryside views and Donald Furst depicts interiors, focusing on doors, entries, stairs and ladders with mezzotint prints.
Marie Ringwald
Edward Rice paints realist
depictions of architectural themes, ranging from ornate cupolas
to simple barns, while Marie Ringwald sculpts utilitarian structures
with common building materials.
Paul Sires creates large-scale architectural sculptures in stone,
marble, granite and concrete and Candone Wharton crafts intricate
raku vessels and boxes topped by forms from ancient architecture.
