The Charles
Street Gallery in Beaufort, SC, Features Works by Lynn Brown and
Sharon DeAlexandris
The Charles Street Gallery in Beaufort, SC, will present the exhibit, Intuitively Coordinated, featuring new work by Lynn Brown and Sharon DeAlexandris, on view from Mar. 20 through Apr. 11, 2009.
Brown and DeAlexandris will share Charles Street Gallery for this show of new work inspired by color and honor.
"Sharon and I have
been talking art for many years and have had the fun of traveling
to Portugal and Mexico to paint together," said Brown, who
lives near the ocean in Beaufort, and creates collages, paintings
and monotypes. "I greatly respect her art background, concepts,
and passion for painting but we have not actually coordinated
views for this show."
Sharon DeAlexandris
"As we traveled to new places we were inspired by the same sights, but with different expressions," observed DeAlexandris, who lives more inland from Beaufort, and is a member of the South Carolina Watercolor Society, National Collage Society, and the International Society of Experimental Artists. "Different points of view bring out different opinions, and our intuitive expressions bring out different results."
"My thoughts for this show revolve around my packratty obsession for discards," explained Brown. "For years I have been collecting old photos with a certain sadness that "family" can be tossed out. For a while I made jewelry with old tintypes to honor the image. I plan to use the same idea as "People I wish I'd known" doing work using an image but not as a portrait - to honor rather than represent."
"Lately my inspiration has been color and exploring different surfaces with oils, which at this point often look like landscapes to me," added DeAlexandris. "I paint rather intuitively and watch as the paint evolves, and then I carry it further. So we will see."
Charles Street Gallery is an established source for Lowcountry and international art, presented within a carefully renovated house surrounded by a lush garden in the middle of Beaufort's historic district.
