Wells Gallery
in Charleston Offers Works by Mark Baily and Evan Harrington
The Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Anticipation, featuring new work by up and coming talented oil painters, Mark Bailey and Evan Harrington, on view from Mar. 6 - 20, 2009.
Educated at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Mark Bailey completed his Bachelors of Fine Art in 2005. Now residing in Vancouver, WA, Bailey has received much acclaim since joining the Wells Gallery in Aug. of 2008. Known for his dramatically illuminated urban interiors that capture the hustle and bustle of city life, Bailey approaches every painting with signature definitive brushstrokes. His command of composition and design evoke the particulars of the scene, while simultaneously conveying an abstract mood. Not limited to interior scenes, Bailey's portraits convey the sense of a unique and fascinating story inherent in every person. He constantly finds inspiration in his surroundings, the people he meets, and the simple things he finds around him.
Emerging still-life
painter Evan Harrington studied at the Arcuri Studio and the Chocheli
School of Fine Art in Philadelphia. In 2006, he received "Best
of Show" as well as Superior and Excellent ribbons in painting
at the prestigious ACSI Mid Atlantic Region Fine Arts Exhibition. Now
in his second year on a merit scholarship at the Pennsylvania
Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Harrington has already sold
a number of works as his early promise is revealed in his sure
hand for light and an appreciation for the nuances of color.
Although he has studied the figure, Harrington is intrigued instead
by the composition of still life as "creating a stage - not
for humans, but for my characters, which are fruit, vases, or
other inanimate objects." Beautiful decorative items
mingle with natural elements in oil-on-linen paintings such as
Blue Bottle Shell and Yellow Tomatoes.
Newly relocated to 125 Meeting Street next to the Gibbes Museum of Art in historic downtown Charleston, the gallery features fine regional art from a diversity of perspectives in various mediums, including painting and hand-blown glass. The gallery is a member of the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association and the French Quarter Gallery Association. An additional gallery is located at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island.
