Sunset River
Marketplace in Calabash, NC, Offers Exhibit Focused on Barns
Elaine Bigelow
Sunset River Marketplace
in Calabash, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Barns of the American
Landscape, a group show including works by Richard Dixon (oil),
Richard Kuhn (oil), Steven Sullivan (oil), Elaine Bigelow (oil),
Roger Tatum (watercolor), Brenda Behr (watercolor), Mark Hilliard
(photography), C.E. Smith (photography), David Keener (photography),
Janet Dixon (watercolor), Rose Kennedy (pastel) and Kevin Beck
(pastel), on view through Mar. 27, 2010.
Gallery owner, Ginny Lassiter, said, "I love the historic
barns that dot our Southern landscape, but when I started pulling
some images together for an exhibit, I realized that some of our
artists have been exploring barns all over the country so I've
expanded the original concept. The show includes pieces like Roger
Tatum's beautiful watercolor of a tobacco barn as well as Lou
Aliotta crisp photograph of an upstate New York barn."
Sunset River Marketplace features work in virtually every genre and style by artists residing in the Carolinas, including not just two-dimensional art, but also fine pottery, hand-blown glass, artisan-crafted jewelry, stained glass, turned and carved wood, fiber art, quilting and more. Visitors are welcome and encouraged to meander through the 10,000 square-foot space with a cup or gourmet coffee or tea.
The facility includes a pottery studio and two kilns and a classroom for the gallery's regular oil, watercolor, pastel and mixed media classes and workshops.
As part of its commitment to the community, Sunset River also presents a monthly Creative Exchange series of presentations, the next one being Mar. 29, 2010 a fashion luncheon to benefit Brunswick Family Assistance and Coffee With the Authors, a panel presentation by local authors. A schedule for both may be found on the gallery's the website.
