Carolina Creations in New Bern, NC, Opens Annual Garden Art Show with ArtWalk - Mar. 14, 2014
Carolina Creations fine art and contemporary craft gallery in New Bern, NC, announces sculptor Andree Richmond as their featured artist for ArtWalk, Friday evening, Mar. 14, from 5-8pm. Richmond will be demonstrating her sculpting technique then.
The ArtWalk is also the opening of the gallery’s 5th Annual Garden Art Show which features paintings by gallery artists, garden art poles, garden stakes, bird houses and wind chimes. Artists include Steve Fabrico creating garden art totem and clay bird houses, garden stakes by Steven Cooper, wind chimes created from clay by Hazel Olsen, paintings by Janet Francoeur, collage by Kathleen Master. The Garden Show will run through Apr. 30, 2014.
Richmond’s hand modeled earthenware sculptures depict animalized human forms. Her surface decorations are built up through successive firings, similar to painting, using both matt and gloss glazes, stains and lusters. When glazes seem too restrictive to convey the subtle mood of some of the pieces, Andrese treats the sculpture as a canvas to paint with oils.
Richmond’s lifelong interest lies with animals. As a child she got an animal encyclopedia for Christmas which sparked her fascination. That interest has continued as she has observed different animals and experienced their personalities.
