Southern Pottery Workcenter & Gallery in Columbia, SC, Offers Work by Leanne Pizio
The Southern Pottery Workcenter & Gallery in Columbia, SC, is presenting All Things Alice, an “Alice in Wonderland” inspired multi-media installation by NC artist, Leanne Pizio, on view through Mar. 15, 2014.
Through Pizio’s talents she has interpreted the characters from “Alice in Wonderland” in tableware using the sgraffito technique, larger than life ceramic sculptures, linoleum prints and a painting of Alice herself. While Pizio’s primary medium is clay, her artistic style lends itself to a wide variety of media. This show includes over 275 pieces created by Leanne!
Pizio was born in Burlington NC, and grew up with three sisters, wonderful parents, and many fun animals. She went to UNC-Chapel Hill and graduated with a BA in Art and a BA in Psychology. Later she attended UNC-Greensboro and received an MFA in 1995. Having worked many different jobs through the years to support her work Pizio is now happy to be able to work at home full time in her studio.
Pizio has perfected the sgraffito technique which involves coating pottery and scratching off parts to achieve an intricate design.
