Center of the
Earth Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Nancy Scheinman,
Scott Hill, & Dawn Rentz
Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Garden of Earthly Delights, featuring works by Nancy Scheinman, Scott Hill, and Dawn Rentz, on view through May 2, 2009.
This exhibition beckons you into a world of fantasy. Although each artist interprets landscape in a very different way, there is a certain mystery to these captured moments in time. Forgotten stories and tales of lore come to life through scenery rich in depth, evoking a sense of depth. Scheinman's complex collages, Hill's haunting atmospheric scenes, and Rentz's saturated compositions present striking contrasts that welcome the viewer to look closer and examine the work.
Scheinman received her MFA from the Washington University School of Fine Arts in St. Louis, MO. Her work is included in such collections as the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Baltimore Museum of Art, Fidelity Investments, The Fogg Museum at Harvard University, and the Portland Museum of Art.
Layering is fundamental to Scheinman's work, with printed, painted and incised patterns. She also layers time, weaving together personal narratives and internalized landscapes. "As a visual storyteller, I weave together personal narratives and internalized landscapes. My images deal with the myth of a purer past within the framework of a modernist grid," says Scheinman.
The atmospheric paintings of Scott Hill take us back in time. He is inspired by painters of the late 1800's and his own childhood memories of Georgia. Hill's works evoke a brooding mood as a result of a limited palette and the incorporation of several carefully painted layers of glazes.
Hill received a BFA from the University of Georgia and his works are included in the collections of the Ritz-Carlton, STP, Inc, JP Morgan Chase, and Citizens State Bank.
Dawn Rentz gleans her whimsical imagery from her rural Wisconsin childhood, the suburbs of Atlanta, GA, and the mountains of Asheville, NC. She received her BFA in Fibers from Savannah College of Art and Design. Her background surfaces in her paintings through her incorporation of textile patterns and texture in the break-up of the landscape. Her works reflect her vision of nature's intense beauty and a strong sense of place.
Rentz continually exhibits on the east coast and her work is included in the collections of the Asheville Art Museum, Price Waterhouse Coopers, the Westin, the Marriot, Biltmore Farms, and Duke Energy.
