Charleston County
Public Library in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Cinc Hayes
The Charleston County Public Library in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit Whimsical Charleston, featuring works by Cinc Hayes, on view in the Saul Alexander Foundation Gallery from Apr. 1 - 30, 2010.
Hayes creates his art
in his small haunted carriage house located in the heart of Charleston,
focusing on images he comes across in his daily life. His acrylic
and mixed media paintings accentuate the beauty of everything
around; things that can often become lost in our fast paced world.
When asked about what he wants people to take away from his art
Hayes says, "I want people to get lost for a few seconds
in the piece and unleash their creativity as if they were looking
at a riddle. I want them to stop for a moment and focus on the
piece, seeing colors and images that weren't noticed at the first
glance."
Originally from Chapel Hill, NC, after graduating from UNC-W, he spent a year traveling with Crayola Crayons where he traveled to underprivileged inner city areas, teaching art in different schools and in children's hospitals. When he settled in San Francisco for a few years he took many art classes to broaden his understanding and technique as an artist.
Hayes uses his experiences from different times in his life and the different places he has lived and traveled to create a story on canvas in front of him. He states, "Charleston has been the most inspiring place I have lived. The area is full of wonderful colors and fascinating subjects and characters."
Hayes has exhibited his work all over northern California and the southeast. His exhibit, Whimsical Charleston will feature work he has created since living in Charleston.
