Flood Gallery
Fine Arts Center in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Britney Carroll
The Flood Gallery Fine Arts Center in Asheville, NC, will present the exhibit, Inside Out, featuring works by Britney Carroll, a recent MFA graduate from Western Carolina University, on view in the Pump Gallery from Apr. 17 through May 22, 2010.
The show will explore
the apprehension toward childbearing. Manifested through the craft
of object-making and united with the design of wall painting,
Carroll investigates the subject's internal and external affects
on identity. Referencing both diagrammatic and invented imagery,
Carroll's acrylic wall painting has become a metaphor for her
struggle with ambivalence towards reproducing; the three-dimensional
objects are her response to resulting emotional tensions.
Carroll began her undergraduate degree in 2002 at Young Harris
College in Young Harris, GA, where she earned an Associates of
Fine Arts degree with honors. Carroll continued her education
at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA,
to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Printmaking in 2006. During this
time she displayed work in group exhibits and held a solo exhibition
entitled, Lady, at Georgia College and State University.
Currently Carroll has completed a MFA degree at Western Carolina
University in Cullowhee, NC. She continues to show her work through
group exhibition, both juried and invitational. Carroll recently
coordinated A Female Dialogue at WCU, an exhibition in
support of the 2009 Vagina Monologues.
