April Issue 2010
McClellanville
Arts Council in McClellanville, SC, Features Works by Cheryl Baskins
Butler & Mark Butler
The
McClellanville Arts Council in McClellanville, SC, is presenting
the exhibit,
Of Art and Life, featuring works by Cheryl Baskins Butler
and Mark Butler, on view through Apr. 24, 2010.
Throughout her career, Cheryl Baskins Butler's art has been inspired
by both the natural and cultural history of her surroundings.
This exhibit features her paintings, woodcuts, drawings and collages.
Her creations are paired, interestingly, with some necessities
of prehistoric life: reproductions made and collected by her husband,
primitive technologist, Mark Butler. His museum-quality reproductions
illustrate ways in which early humans used their environmental
resources to meet their daily needs.
Cheryl's art depicts her observations of the environment that humans have used, abused and revered for thousands of years. Together, these pieces tell a story of man and nature, of inspiration and creation, of art and life.
