City of North
Charleston in North Charleston, SC, Features SC State Museum Traveling
Exhibit
The City of North Charleston's Cultural Arts Department will present the exhibit, Fractals: Mathematics and Science as Art, a South Carolina State Museum Traveling Exhibit, on view in the North Charleston City Gallery, located in the Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston, SC, from Apr. 1 - 25, 2010.
This unique exhibition presents computer generated mathematical "objects" depicting geometric shapes with symmetry of scale, infinite structure, and complexity. Designs on the 32 large colorful panels included in the exhibit mimic naturally occurring patterns, like those in clouds, mountains, river systems and deltas, coastlines, leaves, snowflakes, the nervous system, and blood vessels. One's imagination and curiosity will be awakened with these attractively produced two dimensional artistic creations.
The Cultural Arts Department is the recipient of the 2000 Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award for the Arts and receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, SC Arts Commission, and the corporate community.
