310 ART Gallery in Asheville, NC, Offers National Juried Show by Women
310 ART Gallery in Asheville, NC, will present Morphogenesis, featuring paintings, mixed media and sculpture by members of the The National Association of Women in the Art, on view from Apr. 1 - 30, 2013. A reception will be held on Apr. 13, from 3-6pm.
This historic organization was founded in 1889 making it the oldest and most prestigious professional women’s fine art organization in the United States. It provides a forum for women artists to share ideas and to exhibit their work. Many recognized women artists have been associated with NAWA, including Mary Cassatt, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, Isabel Bishop, Anna Hyatt Huntington, Alice Neel, Louise Nevelson, Audrey Flack, Miriam Schapiro, Pat Adams, Faith Ringgold, and many others.
The artists, who are accepted into this small works juried exhibition, have explored their individual interpretations of the exhibition theme “Morphogenesis”. And, although morphogenesis can be defined as the changing of one organism into another as it matures into adulthood (i.e.: a caterpillar into a butterfly), these artists have also used this theme as a springboard to much broader interpretations such as the growth and change of civilization, society, self-awareness and more.
NAWA is a juried national organization. Therefore, the Morphogenesis exhibition will be showcasing some very talented women artists from across the United States.
One of the NAWA members is Fleta Monaghan, founder and director of River’s Edge Studio (where the 310 Art Gallery is located). It is a visual arts learning center for adults. This studio and gallery are located in the Historic River Arts District of Asheville. It is not only a lovely area, but it has become the art hub of North Carolina. It has earned quite a reputation throughout the state and beyond as a place where people come to enjoy the scenery, the history and the many art galleries within.
