Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Emily Drew Mash & Lucy Spencer

Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, will present a two-person exhibit by Emily Drew Mash, mixed media on paper, and Lucy Spencer, oil paintings, on view from Apr. 2 - 27, 2013. A reception will be held on Apr. 5, from 7-10pm. Also, in the front “sales gallery” will be a show of works by the late Ed Shewmake. He was one of the founding members of Artworks.

Emily Drew Mash is showing a cohesive body of work that has been taking shape over the last few years, with one of the main pieces finished in 2009 serving as the inspiration for the current work. As an artist, she has always been fascinated and overwhelmed by the account of Creation with its mystery and majesty. This show was especially inspired by verses from the book of Job detailing the architecture of the universe and what it teaches us of our Creator.

The art works are comprised of mixed media pieces including intaglio prints, monoprints, watercolor, and pen and ink.

Mash was born and raised in North Carolina. She studied printmaking under David Faber at Wake Forest University where she received a BA in Fine Art. She also lived and studied art and art history in Paris, France during her undergraduate studies. She has been a member of Artworks Gallery for only 3 years.

Lucy Spencer is showing a group of oil paintings that “celebrate her enjoyment in the gentleness of her horses, and the landscape in her yard, and the loveliness of how they blend”.

Spencer has a BFA from the University of Georgia and a MFA from the University of NC at Greensboro. She also studied with the painters Wayne Thiebaud, Susan Shatter, and Jane Frielacher. In the mid-1980’s she ran The Ark gallery, and has taught in several public schools in the area. She has exhibited in NC, SC, and VA, and is in many NC collections. She has been a member of Artworks Gallery since 2010.
