The Artist League of the Sandhills in Aberdeen, NC, Offers Works by Kathleen Leuck
Pinehurst, NC, is now home to Colorado artist, Kathleen Leuck. Her award winning work can be viewed at The Artist League of the Sandhills in Aberdeen, NC, from Apr. 1 - 30, 2013, in the exhibit The Energy of Color. A reception will be held on Apr. 7, from 2-5pm. In addition to viewing her work at the gallery, visitors will enjoy seeing some of the artist’s favorite quotations about art.
Recently retired from a long career as a nurse, Leuck is spending hours in her home studio just having fun, being a midwife to art instead of babies. Her husband now refers to that studio space as “The Magic Kingdom”. Although the move from Colorado was prompted by the desire to be closer to grandchildren, the move has the added bonus of offering an area rich in the arts, both performing and visual.
The Art League of the Sandhills offers classes with instruction from national as well as local masters. The “Joy of Art” studio in Southern Pines offers a monthly artist’s meeting to spur artists to more creative endeavors. North Carolina also offers beautiful scenery and much inspiration. In addition, there are many wonderful galleries to peruse in the area and talented potters close by who create from mother earth herself.
Leuck’s work can be described as energetic and filled with color and texture. She refuses to be pinned down to one particular style of painting and enjoys working in watercolor, oil and acrylic. Many of her works consist of the use of multiple mediums. She enjoys dyeing silk, quilting contemporary designs and fusing dichroic glass into jewelry. Over the course of the last 40 years she has considered it her therapy to attend workshops and art class with many nationally known teachers.
Leuck’s work has been most influenced by Sarasota, FL, artist, Maxine Masterfield who incorporates images of nature into her pieces in an abstract and innovative style. Her goal is to offer to the viewing public work that will lift their spirit and offer a respite from the cares of this world.
Leuck is a member of the Artist Association of Northern Colorado, The Art League of the Sandhills and the International Society of Experimental Artists.
