The Bender Gallery
in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Carole Perry
The Bender Gallery in
Asheville, NC, will present the exhibit, Glass Tapestries,
featuring an exhibit of hand manipulated hot cane glass sculptures
that beg to be touched by Carol Perry, on view from May 7 through
June 30, 2009.
The show features work by prominent glass artist Carole Perry.
Glass tapestries are the result of the artist's life-long rebellion
against The "DO NOT TOUCH" rules regarding glass when
we were children. Her mission is to teach the warmth and soothing
qualities of glass rather than the cold and fragile.
Each sculpture requires more than 7000 threads (cane) which are cut and "woven" at least nine layers deep. After the piece is slowly heated in the kiln, the artist has only 15 seconds to hand manipulate the sculpture into it's final shape. The result is a richly colored, highly tactile glass tapestry complete with fringed ends.
