Charleston County
Public Library in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Michael Morrison
The Charleston County Public Library in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Nine Birds and a Game, featuring works by sculptor, Michael Morrison, on view in the Saul Alexander Art Gallery from May 1 - 31, 2009. The artist uses reclaimed and reused objects to create unique works of art.
Morrison's exhibit plays on cultures, religion and rules through symbolism in sculptures created from reclaimed materials, some found in local dumpsters.
The faces of the nine birds were created from human face molds, the feet from cast lead copies of chicken feet, the bodies from reclaimed chicken wire used during the lost wax casting process of the heads and feet. The game is constructed of materials retrieved from local dumpsters, and the playing pieces are cast off unwanted seconds.
