Cosmos Cafe
in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Karen Banker
The
Cosmos Cafe, home of the Microcosm Art Gallery, in Charlotte,
NC, is pleased to announce their newest featured artist, Karen
Banker, whose work will be on display in a solo art exhibit entitled,
Thought for Food, through June 30, 2009.
Says Tim Arnett, general manager of Cosmos, "We have been
a broad supporter of local artists since we opened over 11 years
ago. Karen Banker's work has the quality, vibrancy, and sophistication
we were seeking when considering our next featured artist. We
are very fortunate to have Karen's work as part of our patrons'
dining experience."
Known for her large,
abstract paintings full of intensity, color and mystery, Banker's
work can be found in galleries and notable fine art collections
across the US. Her award-winning work has been exhibited
in several solo and group shows including the Museum of Contemporary
Art (MOCA) in Miami, FL. Coupled with each painting, Banker provides
a written "stream of consciousness" that she composes
with limited editing after completing each piece.
"When people view my work, my hope is that they respond with
deeper insight into their core being. Whether it's triggered
by an emotion, a distant memory, or perhaps confusion, it's what
lies beneath the surface that intrigues me. It's that innermost
place closest to a person's true self."
Cosmos Cafe is an eclectic eatery offering nightly dinner features as well as mezes and tapas from around the world. Wander through the Microcosmos Art Gallery or relax in the Thirsty Camel Lounge, which showcases specialty martinis and fine cigars. Cosmos Cafe is located on the corner of 6th and College Streets. All artwork is for sale and the event is open to the public at no charge.
