Elder Gallery
in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Mary Erickson
Elder
Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Artist's
Journey, North to South, featuring works by Mary Erickson,
on view from May 1 - 30, 2009.
North Carolina artist and naturalist, Mary Erickson, has traveled
the eastern coast of the United States to capture the beauty of
the American landscape. Elder Gallery's first solo exhibition
for Erickson will feature oil paintings of scenes from Maine to
Florida.
"Most of my painting is done en plein air where I draw inspiration
from nature's beauty," says Erickson. "Each day the
artistic portion of my brain records the sights, sounds, and smells
of the painting experience. The mature artist can tap into that
visual memory in the studio to recreate. I often say that I want
to drag my gear outside and paint as much as I can now, so that
when I'm eighty, I'll have enough reference in my brain to paint
for another twenty years!"
Erickson was born in
New York and grew up in Connecticut and is a graduate of Sacred
Heart University. She studied with noted Maritime artist Don Demers
and wildlife artist John Seerey-Lester. She is a founding member
of SPAA, member of The Group of Eight, Oil Painters of America,
American Impressionist Society, and American Society of Marine
Artists.
Erickson's work is produced mostly on location. She spends time painting in Venice, FL, and Marshville, NC, where she maintains her studio. Her love of nature and her natural teaching abilities have led her to establish an artist retreat and bird sanctuary on her ranch near Marshville. There she welcomes artists of varying levels to attend her workshops which are surrounded by the beauty of the North Carolina countryside.
Numerous collections
in the United States and Europe are proud to have Erickson's work
included. She was recently included in Painting North Carolina,
Impressions en Plein Air which was published in 2008 by Creative
Pursuits of Cary, NC.
