The Gallery at Carillon in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Jan Campos, Martha Opdahl and John Skau

The Gallery at Carillon in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Fiber Constructions, featuring works by Jan Campos, Martha Opdahl and John Skau, on view through July 10, 2009. The exhibition is sponsored by Hines Charlotte Carillon LP and coordinated by Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte.

Each artist brings his/her own personality to the medium of fiber: whether cotton, wood or wool.

Jan Campos

Jan Campos considers herself largely a self-taught fiber artist whose cotton quilts are comprised of large forms that are overlaid with hand-stitching. Before moving to Charlotte, she lived in Mexico City, Caracas, Venezuela and Amman, Jordon.

Martha Opdahl

Martha Opdahl spent her childhood in Peru and was exposed to every kind of needlework, where such domestic needle skills are handed down from mother to daughter. She received her MFA from Indiana University-Bloomington and now spends her studio time between Green Castle, IN, and Santa Fe, NM creating large-scale tufted wool wall pieces.

John Skau

John Skau was a contemporary basket maker who created seamless, monumental forms that are elegant, minimal expressions intricately woven from painted and natural wooden strips. His work has been exhibited at the Boston's World Trade Center, MA; Navy Pier, Chicago, IL; and the National Building Museum, Washington, DC.
