Jerald Melberg
Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Charles Basham and
Thomas McNickle
Jerald Melberg Gallery
in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Painting the Carolinas,
featuring works by Charles Basham and Thomas McNickle, on view
from May 16 through July 3, 2009.
Jerald Melberg Gallery presents a unique, dual exhibition of works
by two artists interpreting the same subject: the landscape
of the Carolinas. As both Basham and McNickle frequently visit
and paint the Carolinas, this exhibition centers on paintings
and works on paper inspired by the distinctive landscape and quality
of light found in North and South Carolina.
Charles Basham
Spending countless hours sketching outdoors, Basham has become acutely attuned to the subtle changes in weather and atmosphere. He is adept at capturing dramatic and compelling moments of morning and evening light over the landscape, resulting in work that is emotionally charged and visually stimulating.
Thomas McNickle
McNickle's exceptional technical ability has been evident since he first began painting in his teens. Approaching each painting in a meditative state, McNickle relies on complete concentration for the layering of direct, spontaneous strokes of color. The power and individuality of these brushstrokes transforms archetypal motifs of land and sky into unique and personal images.
