Shain Gallery
in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Paul Hunter and Curtis Jaunsen
Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is offering an exhibit of new works by Paul Hunter and Curtis Jaunsen, on view through May 30, 2009. These artists offer a contrast of paintings from minimalist and modern metallics to perfectly conceived Rembrandt-like classicism.
Paul Hunter
Internationally renowned for his uniquely luminous landscape paintings on gold and metal leaf, Hunter has adapted a centuries-old technique to give expression to his Modernist vision. His abstract minimalist landscapes combine the exceptional glow and reflective qualities of the flat metals, with the emotional depth of gestural painting.
Hunter's work is in many private, corporate and museum collections across the world. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in galleries across the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, China, the United Arab Emirates, and in museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Princeton University, the Brauweiler Abbey, Germany, Hammer Rolls-Royce, the Quebec Delegation in Paris, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Quebec Museum. Hunter currently resides in New York City.
Curtis Jaunsen
A recent graduate of the atelier style, Florence Academy of Art, Curtis Jaunsen's first career was that of an architect. Both experiences figure into his ability to create realistic interpretations of still life, landscape and portraiture. His dark, atmospheric compositions mirror the influence of the old-world master painters of Italy.
Jaunsen's work was featured in the exclusive, invitational, 2005 Florence Academy Alumni & Faculty Art Show held in the Corsini Palace. His paintings have also been featured in The Artist's Magazine.
