Outer Space
in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Tony Csavas and Karen Ann
Myers
Outer Space, a community space in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Nothing at the Moment, featuring new paintings and prints by Tony Csavas and Karen Ann Myers, on view from May 6 - 31, 2010.
The exhibition features works by Myers and Csavas who, at the moment, have nothing in common. Myers' patterns and deeply personal portraits will be juxtaposed against Csavas' industrial abstracted landscapes. It will be the space's first duo exhibition and the first time to view these two artists' work exclusively together in Charleston.
Csavas received his MFA in Painting from Boston University and his BFA in Painting from UC Santa Cruz. He is currently an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston teaching painting and drawing.
Myers received her MFA
in Painting from Boston University and her BFA in Painting, Graphic
Design and Art Education from Michigan State University. She is
currently serving as the Executive Director at Redux Contemporary
Art Center in Charleston. Her paintings and prints exist nationally
in private collections and have most recently been exhibited at
the Robert Steele Gallery in NY, NY, at the Commonwealth Gallery
in Boston, MA, the Katzen Arts Center in Washington, DC and Scoop
Studios in Charleston.
Outer Space is a safe and public community space that supports
creative expression and information exchange among all people.
It is entirely run by volunteers and funded by donations. Outer
Space hosts a variety of events, including workshops, music performances,
art shows, group gatherings, practices, classes and more. The
Outer Space volunteers also maintain and stock a growing book
and zine library. Since opening in December 2009, Outer Space
has aimed to grow and develop based on the interest of the community
and its volunteers.
