Crimson Laurel Gallery in Bakersville, NC, Offers Containment IV & Works by Jason Hess

Crimson Laurel Gallery in Bakersville, NC, will present Containment IV: Allstars, our most anticipated exhibition of the year, which features 24 outstanding and internationally recognized ceramic artists, and Alchemy: Ceramics by Jason Hess, on view from May 1 through June 25, 2013. A reception will be held on May 4, starting at 6pm.

Our theme for Containment IV encompasses the themes from the first three years of our containment series so artists may submit ceramic box forms, ceramic containers with a related item inside or a ceramic piece within a ceramic container. The possibilities are limitless! Over the years we have encouraged participating ceramic artists to “think outside the box” and we have always been rewarded with outstanding pieces unique to our exhibition. Join us as we celebrate, explore and reinvent the ceramic box!

Artists participating in this exhibit include: Christa Assad, Kenneth Baskin, Ashwini Bhat, Robert Briscoe, Lisa Clague, Cristina Cordova, Judith Duff, Mary Fischer, Mark Hewitt, Nick Joerling, Ani Kasten, Kristen Kieffer, Myung Jin Kim, Zac Lopez-Ibanez, Alex Matisse, Ron Meyers, Brooke Noble, Ben Owen III, Ronan Kyle Peterson, Deborah Rogers, Tim Rowan, Shawn Spangler, Sam Taylor and Lana Wilson.

Jason Hess is a professional ceramic artist and professor who lives in Arizona and instructs at Northern Arizona University. As an “avid wood firer”, his research for over 15 years has focused on the alchemy of the process - how the clay color, wood type, kiln design, and ash dispersion at high temperatures work together to “render a surface that is unattainable in other ways.” Hess’ work is either utilitarian or refers to utility in form while the presentation is more about his pieces as characters relating to one another. Alchemy: Ceramics by Jason Hess will feature a significant selection of new pieces by this talented Arizona ceramic artist.
