June Issue 2009
Castell Photography
in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Julie Mixon and Aspen Hochhalter
Castell Photography in Asheville, NC, will be presenting an exhibit of works by photographers Julie Mixon and Aspen Hochhalter, on view from June 5 through Aug. 6, 2009.
Julie Mixon's work goes beyond mere representation of the subject at hand - the presentation is often constructed in such a way that it creates an alternate context for both the objects and places in which she photographs. Mixon also uses a great deal of symbolism in her work to represent things, feelings, or ideas that are not visible or tangible in reality.
Hochhalter's series, The Reclamation of Silver, is an aesthetic exploration of the remnants of her own production as a photographer working with wet processes. The artist is interested in exploring how traditional photographic processes as well as experimental processes can be utilized to create a richer translation of digital imagery by imbuing it with a sense of materiality.
