North Carolina
Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Nikki
Coulombe
North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC, will present the exhibit, The Majesty of Trees, featuring oil pastels and drawings by Nikki Coulombe, on view in the Nature Art Gallery from June 5 - 28, 2009.
Coulombe's artwork is meant to honor trees and forests everywhere and was inspired by the individual characteristics of different tree species. The exhibit also highlights everything from differences in leaf shape, bark patterns, flowers, fruits and seeds, to the different animals, birds and insects that call the trees "home".
The exhibit reflects different seasonal views and climates, and displays trees in a dynamic light; focusing on trees as symbols of both strength and gentleness. Coulombe hopes to remind visitors of mankind's reliance on trees and their importance as a part of Earth's ecosystem. Forests and trees from North and Central America and Australia, where the artist has traveled, are also featured. All aspects of trees have provided a life-long fascination for Coulombe. The artwork will be either be representational, detailed, abstract or impressionistic, but all will be interesting and attractive.
Coulombe grew up in Alberta, Canada where she earned a degree from the Alberta College of Art and Design. She worked as a freelance artist in Ontario for 12 years and she currently lives in Texas. Nature most often inspires her artwork and trees are her favorite subject.
