The Art House Studios in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by C.M. Kakassy and Lori Lytle

The Art House Studios in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Works of Wandering, featuring works by C.M. Kakassy and Lori Lytle, sponsored by Mariama's Fine Art Consulting, on view through July 31, 2009.

Lisa Roland of Mariama's Fine Art Consulting will present works by C.M. Kakassy of Clover, SC and Lori Lytle of Mt. Holly, NC, two award winning regionally acclaimed artists whose works are brilliant and texturally rich with complex surfaces. Described as colorful, imaginative, and visual stimulating, both artists' works are among Mariama's favorites.

C.M. Kakassy attended classes at the North Shore Art League in Winnetka, IL, where she studied under Rudolf Penn, Abbot Pattison and Gordon Simon. After moving to Gastonia, NC, in 1966, Kakassy continued her studies at Gaston College with Frank Creech, Dexter Benedict and Pam Norcross. While her original interest was in sculpture, she found 3-dimensional concepts readily applicable to printmaking and works on paper.

"Though ideas are usually generated by my reaction to objects in the immediate environment, I prefer images that are somewhat oblique and not easily explained, rather than those which replicate, record or inform," says Kakassy. "I often choose to utilize the information gleaned from the physical world in order to de-construct it from its normal visual context, then to reconstruct it to a new, unrelated image."

Kakassy's processes and the textural and tonal qualities of the materials she uses play a large part in the development of concepts and dimension in her work. Though she is mostly known for her creations in printmaking; the most effective medium she is celebrated for is her combination of technique and colors -which she notes, "guides the evolution of an idea and often inspires a totally new direction".

Lorie Lytle originally from the Midwest, has called the Carolina's home for more than 12 years. She studied at Western Michigan University where she earned a BA in graphic design and painting. She has been dedicated to creating art since early child hood and has produced an abundance of work over the years.

Often using a source from her surroundings Lytle transforms the visual source into her own abstract representation. She describes her paintings as turning what you see into a feeling versus an object - "An expression of my feelings expressed through media". She focuses on color and surface, often times reworking her older pieces even after she's shown them. "The process is as important as the finished product", Lytle says.  She also uses objects from nature or found images to incorporate into her work, and different mediums and techniques to create a layered look or a technical application.

Lytle has showcased Davidson Street and NODA including the Beet Gallery, Art Bavant, and Center of the Earth gallery. She is currently Vice President of the Gaston County Art Guild, and has won numerous awards and juried shows.

Lisa Roland, of Mariama's Fine Art Consulting, has worked at several museums and cultural centers for more than 12 years. She earned her MA in Arts Administration from Drexel University and founded Mariama's Fine Art Consulting 4 years ago. Mariama's exists to provide an avenue for artists to showcase their works in regional galleries, private collections and professional offices. She represents several regional and professional artists, including Nellie Ashford, David Wilson, and Jim Biggers.
