North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Theodora Tilton

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC, will present the exhibit, Paintings of Nature, featuring works by Theodora Tilton, in the Nature Art Gallery, on view from July 3 through Aug. 2, 2009.

The exhibit is a body of work that explores the natural environment and solitude - two themes that dominate Tilton's work. She derives her imagery from journeys she undertakes to explore the outside world. The earthforms she encounters become the inspiration for her work.

"I focus on what I term environmental landscapes-paintings that combine the reality of the natural environment with personal interpretation," Tilton says. "I am interested in the real and perceived power of nature; the healing, rejuvenation and symbolism found through and in nature."

Tilton has exhibited nationally since 1989 in Washington, DC, Maryland, Florida, Alabama, her home state of Virginia, and now North Carolina. She is a member of the Virginia Watercolor Society, The Baltimore Watercolor Society, The Montana Watercolor Society and Watercolor West. She has been featured in American Artist Watercolor Magazine and her work was also included in The Best of Watercolor and The Encyclopedia of Living Artists, 11th Edition.

Tilton earned her BFA from The University of Hartford, Connecticut and an MFA in Art from Syracuse University, New York. She currently is an adjunct professor at Marymount University, Arlington, VA.
