July Issue 2009
RedSky Gallery
in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Ben Parrish & Terry Thirion
RedSky Gallery in the Dilworth area of Charlotte, NC, will present an exhibition of new works by metal sculptor Ben Parrish and painter Terry Thirion, on view from July 10 through Sept. 10, 2009.
Ben Parrish
Since the early 1990's sculptor Ben Parrish has been creating one-of-a-kind metal sculptures that will astound your senses. He became interested in metalwork years ago while watching a blacksmith at work. Parrish taught himself traditional blacksmith techniques which led to experimentation with a new hobby, eventually leading to a new career.
Parrish has always been
intrigued by the way metal becomes soft and pliable when hot and
he continues to use this to his advantage when shaping his amazing
forms. By exploring various techniques and using them to develop
new looks in metal, Parrish has built a strong, diverse body of
work. His work is found in the collections of private individuals
and corporations as well as adorning many public spaces.
Terry Thirion
Painter Terry Thirion was born in Belgium where she studied and graduated from the Parmentier School of Design in Brussels. She attended the Arts Academie in Leuven Belgium and Broward Community College in South Florida. In her trademark style, Thirion attempts to find balance through colorful shapes and lines that intrigue and invite viewers to discover little surprises imbedded in her work.
Thirion's new body of work is the result of two months of intensive study at the Penland School of the Arts in Penland, NC. She explores different mediums and techniques to convey a specific mood. In her newest work, she utilizes carving, in conjunction with her signature use of color and line, to incorporate images of childhood memories and world circumstances into each piece. Thirion's work is found nationally in the collections of individuals and corporations.
RedSky Gallery features original works on paper and canvas, sculpture, ceramic, glass, studio furniture, art-to-wear, jewelry, and more. Over 500 regional and national artists are represented at three gallery locations in Dilworth, Blakeney Town Centre in South Charlotte and the EpiCentre in Uptown.
