The Sylvan Gallery
in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Dan McCaw
The Sylvan Gallery in
Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Dan McCaw Visiting
Artist, on view from July 17 - 24, 2009, as part of the Charleston
Fine Art Dealers' Association Palette and Palate Stroll to be
held on July 17, from 5:30 to 7:30. This is a ticketed event.
The gallery is paired with the restaurant Halls Chophouse for
this fun evening of art, tastes, and sips.
Monies raised go to the CFADA scholarship fund. In the past this
fund has been distributed to the Gibbes Museum of Art, the Redux
Contemporary Art Center and the Studio Art Department at the College
of Charleston.
McCaw will present, in conjunction with the Morris Whiteside Gallery of Hilton Head Island, SC, a lecture and slide presentation on July 17, 2009, from 10am to 3pm at the Renaissance Hotel in Charleston. Attendance is $100 and reservations are available through Morris Whiteside at 843/842-4433.
McCaw comes from the
romantic impressionist with soft figures presenting simple daily
poses. Influenced by Edouard Vuillard, Pierre Bonnard, Gustav
Klimt and the Abstract Expressionists, McCaw frees himself from
the literalness of life and paints the very human figure without
the burden of detail. He was raised in Montana, attended the San
Francisco Academy of Design and the Art Center of Design in Pasadena,
California where he also taught.
The Sylvan Gallery specializes in 20th and 21st century representational
art and carries a large selection of sculpture. They are pleased
to represent the work of thirty or so artists of world renown
including Rhett Thurman, Glenna Goodacre, Guido Petruzzi, Scott
Burdick, Shirley Novak, Ted Ellis,
Susan Lyon and Nancy Bush. The Sylvan Gallery is a member of the
Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association (CFADA) and a founding
partner of the Charleston Art Auction.
