July Issue 2010
Shain Gallery
in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Donald Peeler
Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present new paintings by artist Donald Peeler, on view from July 16 - 31, 2010.
Peeler grew up in Lincolnton, NC. He attended the School of Design at NC State University and graduated with a BS in Product Design. His main concentration was in design but he also took classes in painting and sculpture. While studying with noted sculptor, Jose de Rivera, one of his pieces, a curvilinear expression of four mutually perpendicular planes was selected for an exhibition at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, NC.
After graduating, Peeler worked as a design engineer and then later on as a Manager of Industrial Design. In 1984, he joined The Jobst Institute as Vice President of Research and Development. In 1993, his headquarters moved to Charlotte and he continued as vice President of R&D until retiring in 2004.
After retiring, he started
art classes with Elizabeth Ross at CPCC. Peeler began to pursue
a realistic style which is contrast to the abstract works from
his study at the School of Design, probably due in part to his
many years of designing very functional products. He has also
studied ceramics at CPCC with Jeff Pender and Dottie Baker.
Over the years as Peeler moved from place to place, he kept a
flower garden. The varieties changed but the flowers themselves
became significant and are now the inspiration for his pieces.
