Aiken Artist Guild in Aiken, SC, Features Works by Ron Buttler
The Aiken Artist Guild in Aiken, SC, will present an exhibit of works by Ron Buttler, on view at the Hitchcock Health Center, from July 1 - 31, 2011.
Buttler has been drawing and painting from an early age. His exploration was sidelined by work and family, however in early 1970, he took an oil portrait painting course and his interest was renewed. For the next thirty years he painted in oils as a hobby. A reduction in work time gave Buttler time to study art history and painting at Empire State College in New York.
Buttler and his wife moved to Aiken in 2006. “Moving here I was happy to find a thriving, busy, art community. I appreciate especially the many local art guilds.” He is a member of the Aiken Artist Guild, the North Augusta Art Guild, and the Art Association of Ridge Spring.
“I enjoy working in oils more than any other medium,” says Buttler. “I love the smell of oil paint. I like the way different colors blend easily and working wet paint into wet paint. I sometimes try to create a scene that is surrealistic or fantastic. Some of my paintings also show aspects of abstract expressionism.”
