Charleston Artist Guild in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Ellen Bass
The Charleston Artist Guild in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Reflections, featuring works by Ellen Bass, on view at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery, from July 1 - 31, 2011. A reception will be held on July 1, from 5-8pm.
Bass is a local artist from the small town of Kingstree, SC. Her favorite medium is oil. Painting with oil allows her to interpret the drama of light and dark. Fascinated by the subtle changes in light, in color, and in the texture of objects, Bass has a deep desire to paint a variety of subjects and to make ordinary settings romantic.
Bass has taken numerous private and group lessons, from instructors including William McCollough, Carol McDaniel, Chevis Clark, Jackie Wukela, Andy Braitman, Bruce Chandler, Betsy McDonald, and Gloria Perkins. Her paintings have been on display at the Florence Museum, the Rice Museum in Georgetown, SC, and the Williamsburgh Historical Society in Kingstree, the Charleston Art Gallery and Portrait Studio, and the Charleston Artist Guild. A large selection of her paintings is in the collection of Oncology Specialists of Charlotte, NC.
Bass has also published a devotional book, In A Garden, in which she uses her paintings to compliment the application of Scripture to the gardens of our lives. After the death of her eighteen year old son, Bass turned to her painting as an outlet of expression to help her focus on positive things. In addition to her own painting she teaches others in her community to paint and serves as chairman of the local Arts Festival. Art has encouraged her to appreciate the beauty of our world. She’s thankful for every moment when she’s free to grab her brushes and paint!
