August Issue 2009
Charleston Artist
Guild in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Russell Buskirk
The Charleston Artist Guild in Charleston, SC, will present an exhibit of works by Russell Buskirk, on view in the Guild Gallery from Aug. 1 - 31, 2009.
Surf-Kayaking, period furniture restoration, and painting - one could say Russell Buskirk has found a life of adventure in the old and the new.
After growing up in White Sulphur Springs, WV, Russell has lived in Kentucky, Virginia, and North Carolina. Photography school interrupted a fifteen-year career of building horse barns. A job at Alterman Studios brought him to Charleston in 1985, where he embarked on a twenty-three-year career restoring period furniture.
Although he has been involved in many artistic endeavors, the stunning sunsets at the beach and marsh vistas inspired Russell to return to painting, hopefully on a full-time basis. After taking many workshops, his skill improved. He has been accepted in numerous exhibitions and was awarded Third-place in The Girl with the Golden Earring exhibition at Magnolia Plantation. Russell paints landscapes, still lifes, architectural subjects, and a few portraits, mostly working in pastel.
Russell has been a member of the Charleston Artist Guild for three years and is serving his second year as Director of Exhibitions.
Another passion of Russell's is surf kayaking. He has attended four World Competitions and is highly ranked on the East Coast. His goal is to combine his two passions by painting the beautiful places he goes to surf - what a dream - what a life! Come experience the adventure of his work at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery throughout the month of August.
