City of North
Charleston in North Charleston, NC, Features Works by Jean Ehler
& Jean Bourque
The City of North Charleston's Cultural Arts Department is pleased to announce that works by Jean Ehler and Jean Bourque will be on exhibit at the North Charleston City Gallery at the Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston, SC, from Aug. 3 - 31, 2009.
Jean Ehler is a realist
painter who often paints landscapes in oil with an impressionist
technique. Jean Bourque creates paintings infused
with bold color and abstract design in a variety of mediums. Interestingly,
both artists spent many years studying impressionistic oil painting
with Ilona Royce Smithken, best known for her ETV shows Painting
with Ilona and Ilona's Palette, which aired in the
1970's and 80's. Despite their differing styles, Ehler and Bourque's
works tend to apply the same color lessons derived from their
studies with Smithken.
In this exhibit, titled A Pair of Jeans, the two artists
inspire and challenge one another with their preferred styles.
Pieces on display highlight the artists' different interpretations
of various subjects.
The Cultural Arts Department is the recipient of the 2000 Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award for the Arts and receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, SC Arts Commission, and the corporate community.
