FW Front Gallery
in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Nora Hartlaub
FW Front Gallery at Woolworth Walk in Asheville, NC, will present the exhibit, Conscious Craft, featuring works in mixed media fiber by Nora Hartlaub, on view from Aug. 6 - 30, 2010.
Hartlaub will display her works in the show Conscious Craft. She has, for the last fifteen years, explored the (dis)connections between craft and fine art. An alumnus of the Cleveland Institute of Art in Fiber and Material Studies, Hartlaub has explored installation, performance, and sculpture. She has also expressed the need for the artist to create a proactive role in the world, as opposed to merely commenting on it. For this reason, she often organizes projects for the benefit of non-profits, and also, at times, the unsuspecting public.
For this show Hartlaub has created fiber sculptures of hugging ladies in which a portion of the proceeds will go to the organization Our Voice, and also mixed media houses titled "Houses for Haiti", a portion of these sales going to the American Red Cross.
