Haywood County
Arts Council in Waynesville, NC, Features Works by Toni Carroll
The Haywood County Arts Council in Waynesville, NC, will present the exhibit, Fantasies in Fiber and Fabric, an exhibition of three-dimensional garments, hats, bags, and one-of-a-kind original dolls by Toni Carroll, on view in Gallery 86 from Aug. 25 through Sept. 18, 2010.
Inspired by nature and driven by passion, Carroll's work in this exhibition are both enchanting and astonishingly beautiful. A Jackson, MS, native currently living in NC and Florida, Carroll generously shares her zeal of fabrics and design. As a textile fiber artist she delights in bringing the lure of the mountains in all of their seasonal glory into the gallery displaying her art.
Carroll's award-winning garments tell a story that only an artist can tell. Three-dimensional garments, hats, bags, and one-of-a-kind original dolls all defy logic as to their creation. Regardless of how Carroll might have manipulated the fabrics and materials, the results are all a unique, stunning reflection of a beautiful mountain community and, especially an artist with a passion.
The mission of the Haywood County Arts Council is to build partnerships that promote art and artists, explore new cultural opportunities, and preserve mountain artistic heritage. This project received support from the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Cultural Resources, and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
