Coastal Discovery
Museum at Honey Horn on Hilton Head Island, SC, Features Art League
Member Show
The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn on Hilton Head Island, SC, will present the Art League of Hilton Head Annual Member Show, on view in the Hilton Head Regional Healthcare Gallery from Sept. 10 through Oct. 7, 2009.
It's a time to shine
for Art League members in this economically lackluster year. Each
artist will exhibit one piece of their best work and 85 members
will represent the League. Viewing this show will be a transporting
experience.
The abundant talent of our local artists is reflected in their
creativity and mirrors the beauty of our area. The exhibit
represents all media; all artwork is for sale. Here's a small
sampling.
Bobsy Simes
Bobsy Simes' enchanting Hazy Morning off the Peninsula depicts the beginning of a day in Moss Creek in delicate harmonies of green, purple and orange. The mist hovers like a veil over the marsh.
Annie Coughlin
Annie Coughlin shows us some local color. "I painted this watercolor, because I often see this group of fishermen relaxing at the end of the day on Squire Pope Road and we started to call them The Men's Club."
Gerald Williams
Gerald Williams shows his watercolor of historic Charleston rendered in vibrant colors. He says that Charleston has always captured his imagination as one of our cherished treasures.
Irene Williamson
In addition to many Lowcountry scenes artist Irene Williamson treats us to an abstract composition with strong complementary colors called Inscriptions - a joyous and stimulating work.
Donna Ireton
A sculpture by Donna Ireton, an artful, soaring piece of Hunting Island driftwood and pine needles, is titled is Espiritu de Fuego or Fire Spirit.
Caroll Williams
Docklands is a composite of international parts, explains Caroll Williams. "It was composed of wood pieces from many places: the orange came from Texas; the white washed up here at South Beach; the pale aqua was found in the Bahamas; the green strip from a broken porch rocker; the 'C' from an old signpost. As the pieces came together they became stacks of crates on a dock, to be loaded onto a waiting vessel - memories of the pre-containerized shipping in Taiwan."
Olga Stamtiou
Olga Stamatiou's oil Leap Into Creativity shows the little creatures that are usually rather heard than seen. Stamatiou, who loves frogs says, "You literally do leap into creativity when you look at their brilliant colors, patterns, wide grins and bulging eyes. Frogs are amazing, whimsical and playful Buddha-like creatures that not only inspire us all, but make us happy!"
The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn provides a wonderful gallery space to view the original art and is a venue that captures the spirit of the Lowcountry for visitors and locals alike!
The Art League of Hilton Head is the largest visual arts organization on the Island, and as a not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 membership organization operates a gallery in Pineland Station for the exhibition and sale of artwork by its members.
