Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Chris Flory and Nancy Hayes

Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, will present two new exhibits including: Elsewhere, featuring paintings by Chris Flory and Greeting Cards from Planet Earth, featuring collages by Nancy Hayes, both on view from Sept. 1 - 25, 2010.

Chris Flory

Chris Flory is showing small acrylic on panel paintings most of which were inspired by a recent 3 month trip to Paris. A few are representational, others are more abstract, dealing with the artist's feelings about and impressions of Paris.

Flory was born in Philadelphia and has lived in Winston-Salem since 1988. She has a BFA in Printmaking from Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts) and a MFA from UNC-Greensboro.

Nancy Hayes

Nancy Hayes is showing collages that are a tapestry of images as an homage to the surviving beasts of the natural world, revealing a sense of their peril and frailty. These works continues a line of artistic exploration of the animal kingdom and its interface with the modern world. The compositions frequently present caricatures played out through ironic use of proportion and contrasting elements.

Hayes states: "With a trace of urgency in my work, reflecting the current collective sense of global environmental change, my fear is hopefully matched with a sense of humor and joy derived from my underlying world view".
