Charleston Artist
Guild Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Jane Hart
Charleston Artist Guild Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Inside/Outside, featuring works by Jane Hart, on view from Sept. 1 - 30, 2010.
Hart works in a variety
of mediums, but her goals remain the same. "I'm always trying
to portray a particular feeling through the use of the basics: composition,
color, value, and texture. My goal is to capture the play
of light on an object, to show the overlooked color and texture
of a landscape, or to provide a unique perspective on an everyday
scene". Hart has studied with a number of well-known
artists; Master Pastelists Claire Miller Hopkins and Doug
Dawson, pastelists Ben Nita McAdam, Judith Carducci, and Tammy
Papa; painters Teresa Prater, Rick McClure, Hilarie Lambert, Martin
Ahrens, Ann Merrill, and Joyce Hall.
Hart grew up in a suburb of Chicago before moving to Denmark,
SC, in her junior year of high school. She began her life as an
artist after working and raising a family. She was inspired to
paint interiors after taking a second tour of Drayton Hall here
in Charleston. The natural daylight was coming in through
the windows, lending a stark, almost abstract quality to the spaces
inside the historic home. There was a sense of mystery in
the empty house. As Hart's tour group left each room, she
took some photographs hoping to capture and recreate the light.
She also paints outdoors "plein air" painting.
"Selecting a subject
from all the possibilities and simplifying this into an interesting
and pleasing composition all before the light changes too
much is a great challenge to me," adds Hart.
